By Alan Pearcy | Posted: June 29, 2012
The word “cult” often brings to mind societal castoffs, secluded in the hills of backwoods Appalachia or in the high desert out west, where they follow a self-titled prophet with a penchant for odd sexual behavior.

Business Insider looked into a cult of another kind—those of the marketing world.

From cars and shoes to beverages and home furnishings, it identified 16 brands and products that have reached cult status thanks in part to some of the most-crazed followers the world has ever seen.

And in no particular order:

1. Wegmans
2. Lululemon
3. Linux
4. Zappos
5. Surge
6. Mazda Miata
7. Vans
8. Yuengling
9. Dos Equis
10. Mini (Cooper)
11. Harley-Davidson
12. Trader Joe’s
13. Vespa
14. Mexican Coca-Cola
