10 signs you work in PR—the U.K. edition

By Drew Benvie | Posted: August 3, 2011
Ed.’s note: In response to a story about the 10 signs you work in public relations that ran on PR Daily’s North American edition, PR pro Drew Benvie penned this version for the U.K. audience.

1. During dinner, you are tweeting to build up your PeerIndex score.

2. A newspaper reporter threatens to break your dialing finger if you call again on deadline.

3. You didn’t study a single public relations course before entering the field (apart from Bournemouth, Sunderland, Leeds, or Cardiff).

4. Your friends become nauseous when you want to talk about another “hit.”

5. You sent a pitch to Marketing but called them Marketing Week.

6. You missed out on an interview for a PR job because you told the recruiter that you “like social media.”

7. You get excited when anyone at The Financial Times takes your call.

8. At 7 a.m. you’re at a TV station for an early morning show.

9. You have developed a recent addiction to Flat Whites.

10. Your parents still don’t understand what you do for a living.

Drew Benvie is the U.K. managing director at the PR firm Hotwire Group. A version of this post appeared on the company’s blog.
